Waking Up With: Daniela Barbosa
Daniela is an LA-based small business owner, model, and mama. She runs the online store Lunes, which carries a beautifully curated collection of vintage pieces that feel special, thoughtful, and timeless. Here, we discuss starting her vintage store, her path to modeling, and balancing work and family.
Hello! First off, tell us a little about yourself and what you’ve been up to lately.
Hi! My name is Daniela Barbosa and I am a mother of two sweet little boys. I run my vintage online shop, Lunes, from home.
What is your morning ritual?
Morning cuddles with my youngest son, Pablo. He still comes over to our bed in the middle of the night. Then it is morning hugs with my eldest, Ramiro.
You created the online store, Lunes, that carries the most beautiful vintage pieces. Can you tell us about it and how it came to be?
I have loved vintage and hunting for treasures since I was a young girl. My love for vintage grew and I kept finding beautiful pieces, but I knew I couldn't keep it all. That is when I decided to start Lunes and it quickly became my creative outlet when my babies were little. Now my shop, Lunes, means so much more than clothes. I have formed friendships with women all around. It is the special one-on-one communication and attention that makes it grow. I will forever love the beauty that clothes carry and how women give life to them.
Tell us a little about how you got into modeling–was this something you were always interested in pursuing?
I started modeling just for fun for friends and their brands, actually. It just kept expanding little by little. I love that all of the jobs I’ve done have had such an ease and coziness to them. I have learned a lot with every shoot and every creative I meet. I recently got signed to an agency, HÉLÈNE Agency, run by my dearest, Renee.
You have two adorable sons, what has been your favorite part of being a mother? The most surprising part?
Thank you! I have a lot of favorite parts, but babyhood has to be the most delicious. Now as they are older and going to school, it is so fascinating to watch them bloom. The conversations we have and their thoughts are so lovely to me. The most surprising part is how boys so close in age can have me running around trying to catch up.
How do you balance running Lunes, modeling, and being a mother? What do you do to stay grounded?
Life can be messy. I sometimes struggle to balance it all, so I just remind myself to take it day by day. My love, Andrew, helps keep our boys active and we always tend to be outdoors so that helps a lot.
Who and what inspires you the most?
Books and magazines.
When do you feel most yourself?
After a long walk. Walks for me are so therapeutic and grounding.
